Even FBI advocates use of advertising blockers

In his warning FBR said that on the eve of the New Year holidays, attackers began to give themselves more and more often for well -known brands, Buying advertising, which then appears in the upper lines of search results. Such advertisements are almost no different from the original and redirects users to phishing sites that pretend to be well -known brands/companies. Typically, attackers use the following options for baits:

  • Sites offering to buy software. If the victim downloads something from such a site, then its device is infected with malicious software.

  • Investment sites;

  • Websites of famous brands;

  • CRIPTOMENTERS sites.

The FBI advises users to carefully check the URL before crossing the advertising link, since the names of harmful domains often contain typos, improperly located letters, etc. Another way to protect against scammers is simply not to follow the links from advertising. As an additional measure, the bureau recommends using extensions to block advertising.
