Iran announced, Saturday, January 14, the execution by hanging of Ali Reza Akbari, an Irano-British binational accused of espionage. The agency of the Iranian judicial authority Mizan Online did not specify when the execution took place.
Tehran accused, without providing evidence, Ali Reza Akbari, who worked in the Iranian Interior Ministry of being a spy for the British intelligence agency in mid-6. According to Mizan Online Mr. Akbari, 61, was sentenced for “corruption on earth and for the domestic and external security of the country for having transmitted information” in the United Kingdom.
His death sentence pronounced during a period of demonstrations in the country had aroused an international outcry.
