The network has flowed into the network 3.2 million Aflac customers insured from cancer and almost 760,000 owners of Zurich auto insurance policies in Japan. It is still unknown whether the attackers managed to steal personal information from customers from other countries.
Both companies said they started an investigation and cooperate with the Japanese authorities. All the guilt of the organization was laid on a third -party contractor whose servers were hacked on January 7th.
It is unclear whether both data leaks are related to each other. Neither Aflac nor Zurich began to call the contractor, limiting themselves to apologies and words that the hacked service provider was from the USA.
Aflac reported that hackers stole the following customer information:
surnames;
age;
gender;
Data of insurance policies.
Despite this, representatives of the company believe that attackers will not be able to harm customers with such a set of data on their hands.
A according to the Zurich report, cybercriminals stole a set of data containing:
complete names;
gender;
date of birth;
email addresses;
insurance policies.
Trying to smooth out the corners a bit, the company said that hackers could not steal information about bank accounts or customer credit card numbers.
It is still unknown who is behind such a large leakage of data – not a single group is in a hurry to take responsibility.
