Names of four artists appointed for Marcel Duchamp 2023 award

Bertille Bak, Bouchra Khalili, Tarik Kiswanson and Massinissa Selmani are in the running for the 23rd edition of the Contemporary Art Prize.

Claude Bonnin, the president of ADIAF (Association for International Diffusion of French Art), unveiled, Thursday, January 12, the names of the four artists appointed for the 23 e edition of the Marcel Duchamp Prize. It is the videographer and visual artist Bertille Bak, whose work, which is located between the picturesque documentary and poetic fiction, is inspired by the mining heritage of the north of France and popular cultures (born in 1983 In Arras, it is represented in France by the Xippas gallery, Paris); From the Franco-Moroccan artist Bouchra Khalili, whose work, between video facilities and photographs, sharing strategies and discourse of resistance developed from the margins to think of an upcoming community (born in 1975 in Casablanca, she was represented in France by the Galerie Mor Charpentier, Paris); From Tarik Kiswanson, who, between sculpture, writing, performance and video, addresses the concepts of uprooting, regeneration and renewal (born in 1986 in Halmstad, in Sweden, of exile Palestinian parents, he is represented by the Carlier | Gebauer gallery , Berlin); and Massinissa Selmani, whose works have their origin in political and social news, via press clippings (born in 1980 in Algiers, he was represented in France by the Anne-Sarah Benichou gallery, Paris).

The four artists were chosen by the selection committee made up of eleven adiaf collectors after a process started ten months ago. As every year, the finalists will be invited by the Partner of the Prize, the Center Pompidou in Paris, for a three-month exhibition which will start on October 2.

The name of the winner (s), who will succeed Mimosa Echard, winner 2022, will be announced on October 16 after the vote of an international jury composed this year of Xavier Rey, director of the National Art Museum Modern – Center Pompidou, Claude Bonnin, Collector and President of ADIAF, Akemi Shiraha, representative of the Marcel Duchamp association, Dr. Jimena Blasquez Abascal, collector and director of the Contemporary Montenmedio Foundation (Spain), Josée Gensollen, collector, collector, collector, collector, collector, collector Collection Gensollen La Fabrique (Marseille), Béatrice Salmon, director of the National Center for Plastic Arts (CNAP) and Adam D. Weinberg, director of the Whitney Museum of American Art, in New York.

The Marcel Duchamp Prize has 90,000 euros, including a price of 35,000 euros for the winner who will also benefit from a residence in the United States within Villa Albertine.
