Thursday, January 5 in the morning, Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister Delegate in charge of the Digital Transition, is present in Las Vegas to inaugurate the space devoted to French young shoots at CES (Consumer Electronic Show), World Fair of the World ‘consumer electronics.

Once the French delegation is massive: it is no less than 170 tricolor start-ups that come to try their luck in Nevada. In the photo, Mr. Barrot is not alone: he is framed by two regional presidents: Carole Delga (PS) for Occitanie and Valérie Pécresse, former presidential candidate on behalf of the Les Républicains party, Head of Ile-de-France.

A way to signify the weight of regions in the development of innovation in France. One of the most remarkable French start-ups this year in Nevada, Acwa, comes from the southern region (Provence-Alpes-Côte d´Azur): its robot allowing to detect wear and leaks in the pipeline networks water has received a price for the best innovation at CES. Also present in mass the young shoots of Occitanie and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

In order to believe that innovation would have unusually irrigated all the territories of France. An image that the figures contradict. According to a study by the EY cabinet, in the first half of 2022, 80 % of funding was captured by the only Ile-de-France start-ups. An imbalance that Mr. Barrot recognizes while nuancing it: “50 % of start-ups are created in the region with success stories like Ledger [specialist in cryptocurrencies] who settled in Vierzon [dear], of which two of his co-founders, “he illustrates.

a necessity

For many regions, the transition to the new economy is a necessity to recreate or preserve employment. Ile-de-France has developed a program to facilitate the entrepreneurship of “neighborhoods” in new technologies. “It is not an anti-station-f [the technological campus founded in 13 e arrondissement of Paris by Xavier Niel, also a shareholder on an individual basis of the world], but a necessary complement” , argues Valérie Pécresse.

In Occitanie, Carole Delga pleads for the development of digital technology, because, she explains, “we are the region that knows the greatest demographic progression in France. For unemployment to increase, we must create 24,000 jobs per year “. And for this to diversify, on an activity pool which remains linked to aviation and space industry. The elected official claims to direct the territory which attributes, by public and private funding, the most means to innovation, up to 3.5 % of the gross domestic product in the region, more than the Ile-de France (2.9 %), and Auvergne Rhône-Alpes (2.8 %).
