After sixteen years of procedure, justice made a final dismissal decision on Thursday, January 5, in the Chlordecone file. Used for decades in Guadeloupe and Martinique against the banana range, this organochlorine pesticide poisoned the environment and is suspected of causing many diseases within the population.

The two judges of Parisian instruction responsible for the procedure thus followed the indictment of the Paris prosecutor’s office, rendered at the end of November. This non-place with high symbolic value was feared by elected officials and inhabitants of Martinique and Guadeloupe, who denounce a risk of “denial of justice” and should appeal this decision.
