Medical regulation assistants (ARM) of the SAMUs claim reinforcements and a revaluation of their profession, while calls to 15 exploded under the effect of winter epidemics. The profession is “on the verge of implosion”, underlines, Tuesday January 3, in a press release The French Association of Medical Regulation Assistants (AFARM), one of the two organizations in the sector.

First patient interlocutors during calls for centers 15, ARMs are around 2,500 on French territory, according to AFARM, which claims “800 additional to work in more human conditions”. “There is an urgency to save the first caregivers of the health system,” said the association.

Training capacities have been increased, and should reach around 750 seats at the end of 2023, compared to 400 today. But these courses, which last ten months, are far from filling up.

strengthen the attractiveness of the profession

Sector organizations question working conditions and the level of remuneration, which starts at around 1,400 euros. To strengthen the attractiveness of the profession, they claim that the ARMs be paid into the “healthcare sector” – and not administrative – of the hospital public service, but also in “active category” in order to benefit from an early retirement departure .

In addition, representatives of medical regulation assistants require better recognition of “new coordinator and supervisor”, in order to “give future prospects” to the most experienced ARMs.

“Without status, without communication campaign worthy of the name, we will not be able to recruit,” says Yann Rouet, co-president of the AFARM, who describes professionals “exhausted, who sometimes leave the ship in burn- out “.

The association requests “an urgent meeting” to the Minister of Health, François Braun, emergency doctor a few months ago. “The job is out of breath and launches a latest warning cry. If it remains listening once again, it will be the last before an unprecedented national movement,” warns the organization.
