The former Minister Alain Griset was sentenced on appeal on Wednesday, January 4, in Paris to four months suspended prison sentence for having reduced the value of his heritage in his declaration to the High Authority for the Transparency of Life public (HATVP) in August 2020.

During the appeal trial, on October 24, the prosecution requested six months suspended prison sentence and three years of suspended ineligibility, dismissing the “good faith” pleaded by the former minister and believing that he had “knowingly omitted” to declare certain elements of his heritage.
This former taxi driver for more than thirty years had resigned from the government after his sentence at first instance by the Paris Criminal Court in December 2021.
At the end of June 2022, Mr. Griset was also sentenced to Lille to a year of suspended imprisonment and three years of ineligibility for having placed funds from a union which he presided over a personal PEA. His lawyer had then expressed his intention to appeal.
Among the funds which earned this conviction for “breach of trust” and “false and use of false” was 130,000 euros which belonged to the National Confederation of Crafts of Trades and Services (CNAMS) of the North, which Mr. Griset did not mention in his declaration at the HATVP.
