San Francisco police banned use of killer robots

At the end of last month, the San Francisco supervisory board approved a proposal giving the city police the right to use remotely controlled robots as a means of eliminating especially dangerous armed criminals. A week later, the supervisory authorities of the city withdrew the previously issued permission. About this writes San Francisco Chronicle.

According to the publication, during the first vote, 8 members of the Council spoke, and only 3 were “against”. The initiative caused a wave of protests from the public, requiring the decision, which was done.

However, the abolition of the decision can be temporary – the issue is aimed at further discussion.

San Francisco police planned to use remotely controlled robots in emergency cases when approaching a dangerous criminal could be associated with the risk of both police officers and civilians. The elimination of criminals was to be carried out using explosives.
