iCloud data will now be more robust.
Apple a announced this December 7 a series of technical developments aimed at strengthening the protection of data from its users, to cope with hacking attempts by states. The company has notably announced the implementation of “end -to -end” encryption of iCloud automatic backups, Apple’s online data storage service. Until now, the data stored in iCloud were encrypted, making their hacking difficult, but they were not protected in the same way during transfers between a phone and iCloud.
This lack of protection during the transfer left the vulnerable data to a suction by hackers controlling the local network – Internet access provider or administrator of a Wi -Fi network, for example. These data exchanges will now be encrypted from start to finish, as are messages on WhatsApp, Signal or Imessage: a known encryption key to the only user will be used to protect them.
data inaccessible to pirates as to the police
Similar technology will also be used in an optional feature, called “Advanced Data Protection”, which will figure “end -to -end” iCloud data. Again, only the user will have the deciphering key; Even Apple will no longer be able to read the data, including in case of hacking or judicial requisition. Users who activate this option are invited to carefully keep this key, under penalty of never being able to access their data again.
