Italy: eight dead after landslide on island of Ischia due to heavy rain

The disaster occurred early Saturday morning in the city of Casamicciola term, in the north of the island.

Eight people died on Saturday, November 26, due to a landslide due to heavy rains on the Italian island of Ischia, off Naples, according to the Agency Ag and the daily La Repubblica, Citing the Minister of Italian infrastructure, Matteo Salvini. Local authorities have called on the inhabitants of the island to stay at home, so as not to interfere with rescue operations.

Casamicciola term, a thermal station of eight thousand inhabitants in winter, had undergone in 2017 an earthquake which had left two dead. On the other hand, it had been completely destroyed by a much more powerful earthquake at the end of the 19th e century.
