Japanese manufacturer of electronics and printers Epson announced that will stop selling equipment for laser printers by 2026. According to the company, inkjet printers have greater potential than laser printers to achieve significant progress in protecting the environment.
The company has already stopped sales of laser printers in many markets, but continued to sell in Asia and Europe. Despite the fact that the new equipment will not be available everywhere, Epson will continue to supply consumers to consumer materials and spare parts. Epson also leads some differences between the laser and jet printers of the company:
- Epson jet printers consume 85% less energy than laser printers with similar speed (as of 2019);
- Inkjet printers produce 85% less carbon dioxide, which corresponds to the absorption of one cedar tree, compared with six trees for the laser;
- In jet printers, 59% less replaced components are only ink and a container for waste ink, and in laser printers it is necessary to regularly replace the toner, drum, developer and thermal elements.
According to Epson, inkjet printers simply consume less energy and less supplies. While laser printers work due to heating and fixing the toner on the page, Epson jet printing technology consumes less electricity due to the use of mechanical energy for applying ink to the page.
