The Israeli defense technological company Elbit Systems introduced the autonomous drone-kamikaze Lanius. According to New Atlas , Lanius is a maneuverable quadrocopter with intelligence functions , mapping and classification of goals based on artificial intelligence. If necessary, it is able to explode. UAVs can be launched manually or from a multicopter. It is noted that Lanius is designed to work at small distances.
Israeli Lanius created for flights in groups of three. Small copters are located on top of a large maternal drone, from which they take off. Their maximum carrying capacity is 1.25 kg, including a lethal or non -lethal combat unit weighing up to 150 g. A small lithium battery provides a maximum flight time for about seven minutes. Lanius is equipped with numerous sensors and cameras, as well as an artificial intelligence system Nvidia Jetson. Thanks to this, the device quickly collects and processes data with low energy consumption.
The device is designed to penetrate closed objects and their mapping using AI. UAVs detects and marks objects, especially windows and doors. As the drone object moves in autonomous or on the command of the operator, an inspection of the building. Having discovered people, Lanius classifies them according to the principle of “its own-foe”, “military-not military”, “armed-warmed”. If the threat is detected, the device will offer the operator the opportunity to attack the target.
An additional advantage of the drone is to ambush: to hide and observe, for example, behind a closed door. If it opens and an armed adversary appears, Lanius requests permission to attack.
Elbit Systems emphasized that the drone will not be able to make decisions on the elimination of goals on their own. A person is always involved in this process.
