Time will become shorter for 1 second

International Bureau of Measures and Libra (BIPM) stated that additional leap seconds will cease to exist.

The leap seconds are sometimes added to the timing of the timing in order to compensate for the changes in the angular rotation of the Earth and the standard of time measurement UT1. In addition to UT1, time is also measured according to the standard of universal coordinated time (UTC) created by BIPM. Adding leap seconds for compliance with UT1 sometimes intersects with UTC, which also confuses observers for time.

last week at the 27th General Conference BIPM announced about her decision to cancel an additional second. The reason for this decision is that the rotation of the Earth has changed, and perhaps people will need to introduce a negative additional second for the first time. BIPM also noted that the leap seconds create risks for telecommunication systems and the global positioning system.

Therefore, BIPM urged not to add additional seconds and start developing a “new maximum difference (UT1-UTC), which will ensure the continuity of time measurement according to the UTC standard for at least 100 years.”

BIPM indicated the deadline to present the maximum value of the difference – 2035. In addition, at the 28th General Conference on Measures and Libra in 2026, BIPM will vote for the implementation of a new standard.

On the night of June 30 to July 1, 2021, after adding a leap second, many websites have ceased to function correctly. The malfunctions were noticed in the operation of servers of various resources. Among the injured sites was the news portal Reddit, the online booking system of AMADEUS tickets, LinkedIn social network, Gawker portal, as well as Foursquare, Yelp and Stumbleupon.
