Russia: ordinary users began to sell Windows for developers

Several Russian retailers began to sell to ordinary users a version of Windows, which are designed for developers. This was reported by the newspaper “Izvestia”.

According to the publication, at the DNS, Citylink, Yandex.Market and Wildberries sites, they began to sell Windows OEM versions to ordinary users.

DNS and Citylink store employees said they did not ask customers any additional information when selling software. On the Yandex Market and Wildberries marketplaces, you can also buy an operating system without any confirmation.

It is worth noting that the Windows OEM version is intended only for professional computers. Sale of such assemblies to ordinary users is a gross violation of the license agreement.

The version for developers is often up to 30% cheaper than the “boxed” version, but it has additional restrictions. Such an operating system is attached to the components and transfer it to other equipment in the future. In addition, the user will not be able to transfer the OS to another person or switch to an earlier version of the following.

According to lawyers surveyed by the publication, such actions of retailers are risks of accusations under Article 146 of the Criminal Code (violation of copyright and related rights).

Sellers, in turn, said that the copyright holder of the license did not appeal to them regarding the violation of his rights and if the claim arrives, the goods were withdrawn from the sale.
