State schools in two districts of Michigan were forced to completely suspend their activities due to an extortion attack that struck their system. According to representatives of the school district, interruptions in the work of educational systems began on Monday. Later it turned out that this was the reason for this extorted software, deployed in school systems by unknown attackers. To soften the damage caused by hackers, the schools had to urgently turn off the systems from the network.
Schools promptly notified law enforcement agencies and attracted IB specialists to investigate the incident and assistance in restoring systems. Thanks to the coordinated work of the technical teams of schools and IB specialists, the situation managed to take control of for two days, and on November 17, 2022, schools again opened their doors for students.
But even despite all the good news, students will still have limited access to certain resources, since the teams of specialists have not yet finished working on the restoration of additional systems.
It is worth noting that not a single hacker group is in a hurry to take responsibility for this cyberataka.
