The American Walmart supermarket channel announced Tuesday, November 15, a quarterly net loss of $ 1.8 billion. This large distribution group has paid more than 3 billion to settle the proceedings related to opiates, but its activity was well held and it has noted its forecasts.

The group is now expecting an increase in turnover of 5.5 % for its accounting year, which ends at the end of January, against 4.5 % before. And it expects a drop in its operating profit from 6.5 % to 7.5 %, which is less than the withdrawal from 9 % to 11 % planned so far.

Like the CVS and Walgreens pharmacies channels, which agreed to pay $ 5 billion in similar agreements in early November, Walmart is accused of having massively distributed opioid anti -adders, causing more than 500 000 dead by overdose in twenty years in the United States.

Walmart disputes the accusations on its role in this health crisis and stresses that the agreement does not include any admission of responsibility. But the group believes that solving the proceedings is “in the best interest of all parties”. In addition to the money paid, the company is committed to better monitoring the prescriptions to combat fraud and questionable orders.
