High school: Mathematics will be compulsory for first general students from start of 2023 school year

It was one of the most controversial measures of the Blanquer reform: the abolition of the teaching of mathematics of the common trunk of first class. After two years of twists and turns, the Ministry of National Education announced, Sunday, November 13, the return of a “compulsory” teaching of mathematics in the first of the general sector, from the start of the 2023 school year.

If the Ministry of National Education still awaited final figures, it estimated in mid-October that “less than 10 %” of eligible high school students have chosen to follow this teaching this year, a great minority of between them.
