Australia Government declared that the country begins an offensive operation against cybercriminals after the recent high -profile attacks on the largest medical insurance company Medibank and the telecommunication company Optus.
Australian Federal Police and Australia Communications Department will lead a “joint permanent operation” to “investigate, identify and suppress the actions of cybercriminals” aimed at Australia.
The Minister of Internal Affairs and Cybersecurity Claire O’Nele said that the operation aimed at tracking the hacker groups that are committed by cyber attacks on Australia and to tear their campaigns. What exactly the mission will achieve, the minister did not say.
According to O’Nele, Australia will not wait for cyber attacks to investigate them later. The country will be the first to attack hackers to destroy their plans and minimize the opportunity to attack Australia. O’Nele also added that if the governments cooperate with the FBI and other intelligence agencies around the world, this will weaken cybercriminals.
