Hospitalized for a fracture of the femur about a week before his death, on August 31, a patient had seen her operation repeatedly pushed. As this was to be done on an empty stomach, the septuagenarian would not have been fed, according to his family, who filed a complaint. The University Hospital Center (CHU) of Dijon (Côte-d’Or) defended, Tuesday, November 8, of having hung up this 77-year-old patient.

The case, revealed by the local newspaper The public good, aroused a keen excitement within the CHU who said he was “fully aware of emotion” aroused. The Dijon prosecution confirmed the opening of a preliminary investigation for voluntary homicide, following the complaint, and the CHU reported that an autopsy was ordered by the prosecution. The results are not yet known.

“under surveillance”

The patient’s operation has undergone “several postpones”, recognized at a press conference Emmanuel Baulot, head of the Orthopedic and trauma adult CHU surgery. The septuagenarian was well maintained on an empty stomach “several successive days” but “under surveillance” and, after each postponement, she “had meals,” he said, adding that this was recorded in her file.

Without wanting to decide on the current investigation, Mr. Baulot informed that the patient had several comorbidities, admitting however that the repeated postpones of his operation had led to a deterioration of his state of health.
