“Le Monde” launches audio version of its application La Matinale

The morning of the world offers each morning, from 7 am, a selection of twenty articles, to read and now listen to. With this innovation, “Le Monde” deepens its ambition to make journalism of quality ever more accessible.

The news application La Matinale du Monde, which retains around 70,000 users each month (totaling 1.5 million visits), now offers a listening function of its content.

In a media landscape saturated with continuous information, the morning allows its readers to easily identify the essential and thus not to feel drowned. With a selection of 20 articles made by hand by the editorial staff, each edition offers, from 7 am, the key articles of the news, but also more “feel good” subjects, ideas for cultural outings or travel as well that previews of the newspaper.

After the success of the “world time” podcasts, “the taste of M” and “human warmth”, Le Monde thus takes a new step in its ambition to adapt to new uses. By car, in the metro or during a jogging, access to quality information remains possible. Articles can be listened to one by one or in the form of a playlist. The application, whose ergonomics recall that of Tinder, makes it possible to constitute its own personalized newspaper – each subject can be kept or dismissed according to his desire.

Le Monde has developed this new listening feature with its own sound signature: the voices of six actors have been recorded and synthesized by an artificial intelligence.

conquer and retain New subscribers

This innovation aims to expand the hearing of the morning, by touching new types of readers, but also to retain our subscribers by offering them new comfort of use, more immersive.

to discover the morning, just download it on Applestore or Googleplay . Readers already subscribed to the world can read and listen to all the articles in their entirety. Non -subscribed readers will only have access to the full written and audio version of free items.

We will be attentive to your feedback on this novelty intended to make our journalism ever more accessible, and we will continue to improve the application taking into account your uses and your opinions.

Since the beginning of the year, Le Monde has recorded an average of 178 million monthly visits to its site and its applications and it has reached, in October, a number of record subscribers (549,000 in total, including 467 000 digital).
