An envelope of 400 million euros will make it possible to better enhance critical care staff, while at least thirty-four children had to be transferred outside Ile-de-France.

The envelope promised by the Minister of Health, François Braun, to help pediatric services were inflated to 400 million euros. The announcement was made Wednesday, November 2 in the evening, under pressure from caregivers, after a day of meetings at the Elysée then at the Ministry of Health. 250 million euros were added to the 150 million already promised on October 23 by the government to support the “tension services” of the hospital. This money should make it possible to reinstate until March 31, 2023 certain measures put in place this summer, such as the doubling of the remuneration of night hours for “all the staff of the hospital”.
Above all, the “critical care bonus” granted to certain categories of nurses to respond to the COVVI-19 crisis will be extended to all paramedical staff working in these services under tension, and in particular the childcare workers in pediatric services , which were until then excluded from it. These measures aim to “recognize the unfailing investment of our hospital professionals,” said François Braun on Wednesday, during a press conference. The Minister recognized a “worrying situation” in hospitals, linked to a “disturbing” bronchiolitis epidemic.
For Olivier Brissaud, head of pediatric resuscitation service at the CHU de Bordeaux, who participated in the meeting in the ministry, this last measure represents “a strong signal towards paramedical staff and an awareness of the major oblivion of this summer “. Regarding the other “recycled” measure, “it is only a dressing that will exhaust staff even more”. From now on, “we must move forward”: the ministry announced the upcoming implementation of thematic working groups supposed to lead in the spring of 2023 to national pediatric assizes.
Same observation for Isabelle Desguerre, head of the Pediatric Neurology Service at Necker-Enfants Malades Hospital, in the 15 e Paris arrondissement: “It is a small answer to a big problem , but we are not going to spit on the small measures that we are proposed. “” Now it is necessary that the work of reflection leads to a funded and millimeter action plan “, maintains the neuropediatrician, who also participated in the meeting .
“We put children in danger”
“The fundamental problem concerns the need for recognition of the specifics of pediatrics,” she said. Solutions supported by professionals were published Wednesday morning in Sud-Ouest in a column signed by all those responsible for French pediatric resuscitation, without exception. Strict and permanent respect of the ratios of paramedical staff compared to the open beds in critical care (legally, a nurse for two beds), adaptation of the number of pediatric critical care beds to the population and open opening of these beds all year round … So many proposals that will have to be studied for the Spring Assizes.
