The association revealed on Thursday filmed images this summer in a breeding of Saône-et-Loire and denounces “miserable living conditions” for animals.
Images shock. The animal defense association L214 announced Thursday, October 27, that it has filed a complaint for “ill -treatment” and “misleading commercial practices” against the company Chevenet, “European leader” of farmers’ goat cheeses, after testimonies of launchers Alert on a breeding of 2,000 goats in Saône-et-Loire.
The complaint, filed with the public prosecutor in Mâcon, intends to denounce “the miserable living conditions of animals” in Saint-Maurice-de-Satonnay (Saône-et-Loire), but also “false” communication of the CHEVENET company.
“dozens” of dowpted animals every day
On his site , Chevenet inscribes among his “values” the “Respect for animals and the environment”, represented by a photo of outdoor goats. Part of the cheeses benefit from a protected designation of origin. “My goal is to let the herds organize as they would be in nature,” writes the manager, Thierry Chevenet, on the company’s website.
l214 reveals a reality very different . The association denounces an intensive breeding where 2,000 goats are “locked with the sole access to the outside a concrete court”. “There are no animals in grazing. Several dozen kids die every day after a long agony for some,” she said, supported by a video described by actress Isabelle Adjani.
“The dead are piled up outside with other advanced decomposition corpses and bones,” says L214, citing testimonies from two whistleblowers, under the cover of anonymity. “I did not think that we were going to see dead goats and kids left in the middle of the others, for whole days. I did not think of an intensive breeding with so much mistreatment,” said one of them.
crossroads and monoprix suspend their supplies
L214 also challenged the veterinary services of the Prefecture of Saône-et-Loire and the Directorate General for the Fraud Repression.
In a press release sent to the France-Presse agency, the CHEVENET company denounces a “manipulation of the images obtained through assemblies and a staging that does not reflect reality”. She claims to do everything possible to “protect the life of kids” during intense heat waves like that of last summer, period during which the images released by L214 were shot. “Unfortunately, and despite all our efforts”, these heat waves “can be fatal for animals, as for men”, adds the company.
Following the L214 complaint, the Carrefour and Monoprix brands announced that they suspend the supplies of the products concerned. Carrefour also launched a procedure for withdrawing products from its shelves as well as an internal survey, according to L214.
