presented release of Linux-Distribution ZORIN OS 16.2 based on the Ubuntu package base 04.04. The target audience of the distribution is novice users accustomed to working in Windows. To control the design of the distribution, it offers a special configurator that allows you to give the desktop the view characteristic of various versions of Windows and MacOS, but the composition includes a selection of programs close to the programs that Windows users are accustomed to. To integrate the desktop with a smartphone, the application is supplied zorin connect (based on KDE Connect). In addition to the default Ubuntu repositories, support for the installation of programs from the Flathub and Snap Store catalogs is enabled. The size of the bootable ISO-image is 2.7 GB (four assemblies are available-the usual based on GNOME, “Lite” with XFCE and their options for educational institutions).
In the new version:
- Updated versions of packages and user applications, including the release of Libreoffice 7.4. The transition to the Linux 5.15 core is carried out with the support of new equipment. Updated graphic stack and drivers for Intel, AMD and NVIDIA chips. Added support by USB4, new wireless adaptors, sound cards and manipulators (Xbox One Controller and Apple Magic Mouse).
- The main menu added Windows App Support Program to simplify the installation and search for programs for the Windows platform. The application database used to determine the files with the installers of Windows programs and output recommendations on the available alternatives (for example, when trying to launch the installers of the EPIC Games Store and GOG Galaxy services, it will be proposed to install the Heroic Games Launcher ).
