The American automaker General Motors (GM) announced, Friday October 28, having decided to temporarily stop paying for advertisements on Twitter. He becomes the first great advertiser to question his presence on the platform after the acquisition of the social network by Elon Musk.
“We are chatting with Twitter to understand the direction of the platform under its new owner,” said the group in a message transmitted to the France-Presse agency. “As it is normal to do during a significant change on a media platform, we temporarily suspended our paid advertisement,” adds the company.
GM will however continue to respond to the requests of his customers on his official Twitter account. The group is a direct competitor of Tesla, also led by Elon Musk.
reassure advertisers
Beyond this aspect, advertisers generally avoid being associated with non-consensual content. However, the new owner of Twitter presents himself as an ardent defender of freedom of expression, bringing in the supporters of a solid moderation of the content a renewed hateful or disinformation content.
Elon Musk tried to reassure advertisers by saying, Thursday, wanting to allow all opinions to express themselves on the site without making it an “infernal” platform where everything would be allowed. He then announced, Friday, that he intended to provide the platform with a “advice for moderation of content with very diverse views”, without giving more details for the moment.
