The Moroccan rapper Elgrande Toto, a very popular artist in the Arab world, was placed in police custody, Monday October 24 in the evening, following five complaints filed against him for “defamation, insults, threats and incentives to violence, “a judicial source told AFP.

The prosecutor of the court of Casablanca decided to place in police custody of Taha Fahssi, better known by his stage name of Elgrande Toto, after a filing of complaints of “three artists, a journalist and a police officer”, said the source on condition of anonymity. According to the institutional daily in the morning, the rapper is the subject of a preliminary investigation which should relate to all of his publications, digital content and declarations “likely to contain elements punishable by law”.

Sunday, Taha Fahssi had apologized to the “clashes” by his statements during a recent concert where he assumed to consume cannabis, and who triggered an outcry in Morocco. On September 23, Elgrande Toto recognized smoking kif in front of the press after a concert in Rabat organized by the Ministry of Culture: “I smoke Hashish and then?”, He said. “It does not mean that I am a bad example” for the public, he pleaded.

At the beginning of the month in Casablanca, a rap evening at a popular urban music festival degenerated into violence and vandalism and fired in the nightmare for thousands of spectators, overflows that did not fail to worry authorities. Elgrande Toto is the most sought after Arab artist in the Maghreb and the Middle East on the Spotify platform, with more than 50 million listenings in 2021. His YouTube channel has 2.7 million subscribers and more than 431 million Views.
