The citizen convention on the end of life, which must bring together a large hundred French in order to guide the government on a possible new change of law, will begin its work on December 9.
In the meantime, “the draw for 150 citizens who will form the convention is launched today”, Tuesday, October 25, announced its organizer, the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (EESC) in a press release .
This citizen agreement, planned to be held from December to March, will debate the need to change the current legislation on the end of life, a subject whose president, Emmanuel Macron, aims to make the great societal reform of his second five year term. It is from these debates that the Government will decide to change the Claeys-Leonetti law or not on the medical support of the end of life, possibly by legalizing an “active help to die”, that the Committee of ‘Ethics recently judged possible at very strict conditions.
The Elysée and the Government have, in fact, returned the responsibility of the debates to this Citizen Convention, on the same model as that which had met on the climate in 2019 and 2020, even if the State is had finally retained that part of his proposals.
The draw, carried out by the Harris Interactive Institute, will aim to select a representative sample of the French according to sex, age, place of housing, the region of origin, of the category socio -professional and level of education.
“Particular attention will be paid to the most precarious audiences and ultramarine, whose recruitment can be more difficult”, promises the EESC.
