The Italian singer and composer Franco Gatti, interpreter of the Sarà tube perched Ti Amo with the group Ricchi e Poveri, died at the age of 80, announced Tuesday, October 18, the media of the peninsula. Franco Gatti has had health problems for several years and had retired from the music scene in 2013, after the death of his son Alessio.
The Ricchi e Poveri group, born in the 1960s in Genoa, experienced celebrity in Italy and abroad in the 1970s and 80s, selling more than 20 million records during their career. The title Sarà perched Ti Amo (“It must be because I love you”), released in 1981, will appear four years later on the soundtrack of the Filstée, by Claude Miller, with Charlotte Gainsbourg.
The group represented Italy at Eurovision in 1978 and won the San Remo Italian song festival in 1985, an institution in the peninsula that captivates millions of fans each year.
