Medicine students sent alone to the front in medical deserts? Medicine interns are called upon to demonstrate on Friday October 14 at 2 p.m. in front of the Ministry of Health, as part of a strike day organized by their unions, to protest against the extension of a year of their studies, a measure defended by the government, in particular to fill the lack of doctors in certain territories.
The National Interthhands of Interns (ISNI) and that of General Medicine Interns (ISNAR-IMG) claim the withdrawal of the measure establishing a fourth year of boarding school for future general practitioners, which would be carried out “in priority in Areas where medical demography is under-dense “, according to the social security budget project for 2023.
only” on the basis of volunteering “
In An interview with Liberation published on Friday, the Minister of Health , François Braun, believes that this conflict has “left like a trail of powder on a misunderstanding” and ensures that at the origin of this fourth year of studies was “a request from the students”.
The year of additional studies provided for by the reform must be devoted to “ambulatory internships” aimed at “better preparing” the future doctors to exercise in a medical office, he argues. And if these internships will have to be carried out “preferably in sub-dense areas”, the minister promises that “this remains on the basis of volunteer”.
Debted this week in the National Assembly, the disputed article was validated by the deputies of the Social Affairs Committee, with some formal amendments, in particular on the supervision of students by internship supervisors exercising in the same “Lifestyle”. “Interns will have university internships. There is no question of letting go alone in nature,” promises Mr. Braun.
Not enough to satisfy the ISNI, which has denounced for two weeks a reform intended to “instrumentalize doctors in training to respond at low cost” to problems of access to care and “carried out without consultation with the main interested parties”.
Interns have since received the support of most of their elders. On the hospital side, the General Confederation of Labor (CGT), the French Confederation of Management – General Confederation of Framework (CFE -CGC), but also practical practitioners Hospital (APH), emergency artists Association of URGENTISTERS OF FRANCE (AMUF) and anesthetists from the National Union of Hospital Practitioners Anesthetists-Réanimators Enlarge (SNPHARE) announced their participation in the demonstration before the ministry.
Among the Liberals, the Confederation of Medical Unions (CSMF), the first organization of the profession, approved the strike of interns, deeming “irresponsible” to send them alone in medical deserts. “Total support” also of the union of liberal doctors (SML), which considers that the measurement amounts to “carrying on the shoulders of youth the weight of twenty-five years of errors of successive governments”. The main union of generalists, general practitioner (MG France), also shares “the concern of students”, while claiming “a fourth year meeting their legitimate expectations”.
