Theater: Odeon-theater of Europe paralyzed by a strike for ten days

In a context of inflation, salary negotiations did not make it possible to find an agreement between unions and management.

tenth day of strike at the Odéon-Théâtre in Europe, in Paris. Since September 30, the two shows on the poster have been canceled, except Sunday: days of joy, Arne Lygre , staged by Stéphane Braunschweig, in the room of 6 e Arrondissement, and in the measurement of the impossible, written and staged by Tiago Rodrigues , at the Berthier workshops, in the 17 e arrondissement. The FO (Force Ouvrière) and CGT unions (General Confederation of Labor) are at the origin of this movement, which calls for a revaluation of wages of 7 % for all 120 employees. Reconductable every day, this strike lasts 59 minutes, between 8:30 p.m. and 9:29 p.m., which causes cancellation, the performances starting at 8 p.m.

Like all public theaters, the Odéon is subject to a wage grid, discussed at each compulsory annual negotiation between management and unions, depending on the framing law indicated by the Ministry of Culture. This law offers an envelope which must enter the theater budget. For Candice Wehner, dressing and union delegate Synptac-Cgt-Odeon, “the budgetary framing is not at all up to wage losses linked to inflation, and the devaluation of the Odéon salary grid since Several years. It is not the management that we attack, but the guardianships. But it is up to the management to fight for the reassessment of the wages of its employees, by increasing the subsidy “.

Loss of 200,000 euros in ticket office 2>

“In the context of inflation, we understand the expectations of employees, meets Patricia Stibbe, the administrator of the Odéon. But we cannot fully satisfy them. We have proposed several scenarios which allowed increases in wages superior to previous years. None has been the subject of a consensus. “At the general assembly of Tuesday October 11, it was decided that the performances of Thursday and Friday would however be ensured. These are the last two of the shows that have been presented eleven times out of the twenty-two planned. The loss in ticket office amounts to 200,000 euros.

“We want negotiations and discussions to continue, asks Candice Wehner. We will see where they are in November when the next shows will be played.” These next shows are in transit, Amir Reza Koohestani , from November 8 to 1 er December to the Berthier workshops, and liebestod, by Angélica Liddell , from November 10 to 18 place de l’Odéon. Until then, the theater offers a show outside the walls: the resumption of Love, by Alexander Zeldin, from October 15 to 22, at the Théâtre de la Commune d’Aubervilliers (Seine-Saint-Denis).
