Wine 8.6 and GE-PROTON7-55 Released

Experimental Release of Wine 8.6 Improves Functionality for Windows Applications

The Wine project has announced the release of Wine 8.6, an experimental version of the open implementation Winapi. This updated version has closed 25 errors and made 414 changes since the previous release of version 8.5.

The most significant updates in this release include a new mathematical library, which transfers functions from the Musl 1.2.3. Additionally, the Gecko browser engine has been updated to version 2.47.4, and the PostScript drive has improved support for spool files that store data on tasks displayed for printing. Wine 8.6 also includes the addition of file Windows.ui.composition.idl with definitions of Windows.ui.composition.*

This release has closed errors related to the work of games, such as The Westerner, Team Fortress Arcade, Pixel Force: Left 4 Dead, Inquisitor, My Place, Dirt Rally 2.0, Matrix Awakens Megace Unreal Engine 5.1 Demo, Hogwarts Legacy, and Pro Evolution Soccer 2008. Errors related to applications like Pepakura Viewer, 3D Mark 2001se, Watchtower Library 2016, Brias Solo, The Bat! 9.3.4.12, and LDAP Explorer have also been closed.

Furthermore, the release of Wine 8.6 comes alongside an update to Project GE-Proton 7-55, an extended assembly of a package for launching Windows applications called proton. VALVE formed a community of enthusiasts to create this new update. Proton GE 7-55 offers a fresher version of Wine, uses FFMPEG in Faudio, and includes additional patches that solve problems in the game applications. This version of Proton GE has moved to the fresh code base Wine, DXVK, and VKD3D (from GIT) and made corrections to solve problems in the games Star Citizen and Final Fantasy Stranger of Paradise.

These updates provide Windows users the opportunity to operate their applications in Linux without missing out on valuable compatibility features.
