Joshua Stricob, the key developer of the Budgie project, has announced the formation of a new Solus Linux development team on Reddit. Previously, Strica left the Solus project and began separately developing the Budgie desktop while Solus took over Beatrice Mayers.
The Solus Linux community had expressed concern over the distribution not receiving updates after the release of Solus 4.3 in June of 2021. However, Strobl clarified the situation and stated that the project is still underway with plans to create an alternative infrastructure and transfer services, repositories, and assembly systems to new servers. The developers also promise a transition to a new management model, which is independent from one person and more transparent. They have also promised to eliminate all problems associated with the recent infrastructure breakdown.
