A two-day meeting of ministers from the G7 countries on digitalization and technology has begun in Takasaki, the Gumma prefecture. The meeting will end with an acceptance of a joint statement intended to address a major theme of the conversation, artificial intelligence (AI) and neural networks.
The increasing popularity of technologies such as Chatgpt Chat Bot has brought AI and neural networks into the spotlight, and Minister of Administrative Affairs and Communications of Japan Takeaki Matsumoto emphasized their importance at a press conference on April 28. Matsumoto noted that it was essential to develop rules for AI and determine measures to spread reliable AI as part of each country’s general vision.
The ministers from the G7 countries plan to adopt an AI action plan and propose the concept of responsible use of “trusted AI,” according to the NHK. They will also discuss the dangers of creating and spreading false information through AI. The G7 countries plan to propose specific legislative initiatives to regulate neural networks and AI in the future.
The safety and development of underwater cable networks, a topic of particular relevance due to their vulnerability in natural disasters or conflicts, will also be on the agenda. The G7 countries plan to support investments in the development of underwater cable networks, including assistance to small island states in the Asia-Pacific region and developing countries that lag behind in this area.
The ministers will also consider the digital infrastructure of developing countries, countering cyber attacks, ensuring reliable and free data exchange on the network, the formation of the next generation of high-speed 6G communication, reducing energy consumption, and other topics during the meeting.
Japan will hold the G7 summit from May 19 to 21, 2023, in the city of Hiroshima, which suffered an atomic bombing from the United States on August 6, 1945. The summit will allow leaders to discuss general problems and strategies in the field of digitalization, technologies, and other topical issues facing the global community.
