Americold, the leading American storage and logistics company that operates 245 warehouses around the world, has suffered IT problems after a network hack last week. The company has said that it has restrained the attack and is currently investigating, though according to an official note sent to American customers, the company’s systems will be disconnected until at least next week.
Americold representatives stated that the attack had been localised and the network disabled to guarantee a lack of risk. The company has now begun the process of restoring its damaged systems. In the meantime, it has asked that all customers temporarily cancel incoming supplies of products, and transfer all outsies, except for the most critical ones with goods that have expired shelf lives.
The company has not made an official public statement about the incident, nor has it reported any details of the attack in the aforementioned note sent to its customers. However, as Americold focuses on restoring the damaged systems and assessing what data can be restored, it suggests that the cause of the failure is the Mount Program attack.
This targeted cyber attack on such a company has once again demonstrated the unscrupulous nature of many cybercriminals who put not only financial costs but also the health of ordinary citizens at risk. Supply chain delays could lead to food products being stored inappropriately, potentially causing harm.
