Buddies of Budgie, the organization responsible for the development of the Budgie desktop environment, has released Budgie 10.7.2. This latest version of the user environment consists of several separate components, including the Budgie desktop, Budgie Desktop View, Budgie Control Center, and budgie screensaver. The project code is distributed under the GPLV2 license, and users can access Budgie through various distributions, including Ubuntu Budgie, Fedora Budgie, Solus, GekkoLinux, and EndeavourOS.
Budgie controls the Budgie Window Manager (BWM), which is an extended modification of the base plug-in Mutter. The Budgie panel is similar to traditional desktop panels and contains applets that enable flexible configuration of the composition, positioning, and implementation of the main panel elements. These elements include the classic application menu, task-switching system, open windows area, virtual desktop viewer, power control indicator, volume control indicator, system status indicator, and clock.
Improvements in Budgie 10.7.2 include enhanced compatibility with the GNOME 44 software stack, as well as updates to the composite manager of the MUTTER 12. Adaptation to changes in the “zenity” utility has been made to create interactive dialogs.
Budgie 10.7.2 is expected to offer an improved user experience while maintaining its free and open-source nature. Users can download and test the new release through its GitHub repository.
