Manufacturers of mobile chips are secretly collecting private data from several popular smartphones, even when users have cleared their devices of Google services, according to a study by Nitrokey. The study found that data on Qualcomm chips were transmitted “strictly according to the schedule”, regardless of the presence of Google services on the phone. Among the data trail discovered by researchers was a two-second exchange with the domain name “izatCloud.net”, which is owned by Qualcomm. The data packages were not encrypted using HTTPS, SSL or TLS, leaving them vulnerable to interception by hackers, governments, network administrators and telecoms operators.
