Jonathan Carter Re-elected Fourth Time as Debian Project Leader

Debian project leader, Jonathan Carter, has been re-elected for a fourth term, according to an announcement on the Debian developers’ forum. Carter was the only candidate in the annual project leader election and secured victory with 244 votes in support and 15 against out of a total of 259 eligible voters.

The turnout was low, with only 28% of eligible voters participating. This is the lowest percentage in the project’s history; last year’s turnout was 34%, while the highest turnout ever recorded was 62%.

Since 2016, Carter has contributed to over 60 packages in Debian, worked to improve the quality of Debian-Live team live images, and been involved in the development of the AIMS Desktop assembly of Debian, used by several South African scientific and educational institutions.

The Debian project is a community-driven free and open-source operating system used by millions of users worldwide. As the project leader, Carter will have a key role in shaping the project’s future development.
