Announcing Fedora Linux 38: What’s New
The latest distribution release of Fedora Linux, version 38, has been presented. Fedora 38 is now available to download for users needing Fedora Workstation, Fedora Server, Fedora CoreOS, Fedora Cloud Base, Fedora IoT Edition, and live-assembly. These products come spun with desktop-rings KDE Plasma 5, XFCE, Mate, Cinnamon, Lxde, Phosh, Lxqt, Budgie, and Sway. The assemblies are formed for architectures X86_64, Power64, and ARM64 (AARCH64). However, the publishing assemblies of Fedora Silverblue have been delayed.
The Main Changes in Fedora Linux 38
The most significant changes in Fedora Linux 38 include:
- Implemented first-stage transition to a modernized loading process
- The differences from the classical load are reduced to use of the unified image of the UKI nucleus (Unified Kernel Image).
- The first stage saw support added to the bootloader, the tool for installing and updating the UKI is implemented, as well as the UKI experimental image, focused on loading virtual machines with a limited set of components and drivers.
- In the packet manager of RPM for analyzing the keys and digital signatures involved SEQUOIIA package, offering the implementation of Openpgp in RUST. Among direct dependencies to RPM added a package RPM-sequoia.
- Implemented major upgrade of microdnf
