Tiny Core Linux 14.0, a minimalist Linux distribution that can work on systems with just 48 MB of RAM, has been released. The distribution is loaded entirely in RAM and works from memory, with its graphic circle based on the X-server Tiny X, Tulkita Fltk, and the FLWM window manager. Tiny Core Linux 14.0’s system components have been updated, including Linux 6.1.2, Glibc 2.36, GCC 12.2.0, Binutils 2.39, E2FSPROGS 1.46.5, Util-Linux 2.38.1, and Busybox 1.36.0.
Users can download the ISO image from the Tiny Core Linux website, which occupies only 17 MB. For 64-bit systems, a corepure64 assembly has been prepared, with a size of 23 MB. Additionally, users can download the coreplus version, which includes additional packages such as a set of window managers (FLWM, JWM, ICEWM, FLUXBOX, HACKEDBOX, OPENBOX), an installer with the ability to install additional extensions, and a ready-made set of tools to provide an exit to the network, including a manager for configuring Wi-Fi connection.
Tiny Core Linux 14.0’s release has been welcomed by the Linux community given its ability to run on older hardware with limited resources. With its minimalist design and efficient use of resources, it is expected to attract users who prioritize speed and simplicity over features and aesthetics.
