Fonoster, an open-source alternative to Twilio, has released version 0.4.0 of its cloud communication service. The Fonoster project provides a Web API for calls, SMS, voice applications and other communication functions, and is coded in JavaScript. The platform has several features including provision of programmable voice applications with functions such as answering machines, automatic sound redirection, and systems for automatically reading textual information. Fonoster also has support for Cloud-Init, multiplayer environments, Amazon S3 storage, RBAC-based separation, and authentication support using OAuth and JWT. Plus, it incorporates Let’s Encrypt certificates to ensure secure API connections. The service supports the Node.js platform and Google Speech API for speech synthesis, and CLI tools can be expanded through plugins.
