Free Foundation for Respect Your Freedom has certified a new device that meets the requirements for providing freedom of use to its users. The device is the Gigabit Mini VPN Router tpe-r1400, which comes with a special logo that emphasizes the provision of complete control over the user. The router, built on SOC Rockchip RK3328 with a four-haired CPU Cortex-A53 (1.4GHZ), is supplied with 1 GB of RAM, equipped with two gigabit Ethernet interfaces, a USB 2.0 port and a micro-SD slot. It does not have Wi-Fi, and it is recommended to use TPE-R1400 wireless access in combination with a wireless router TPE-R1300 of the same manufacturer, previously certified by the SPO Foundation.
The router comes with the U-boot loader and firmware based on the completely free distribution librecmc, which is the branch from OpenWRT, supplied with the linux-libre core and cleaned of binary drivers, firmware and applications distributed under a non-free license. The distribution provides built-in tools for organizing the operation of systems in the local network via VPN and supports VPN and Wireguard, as well as connecting via VPN providers such as Mullvad, OVPN, NJALLA, PUREVPN, IPREDATOR and NordvPn.
To obtain a certificate from the Foundation of SPO, the product must satisfy specific requirements. For example, it must provide free drivers and firmware, everything supplied with the device should be free, there should be no DRM restrictions, and it should offer the possibility of full control over the operation of the device. Additionally, it should support the replacing of firmware, the work of completely free GNU/Linux distributions, the use of formats and software components not limited by patents, and the availability of free documentation.
Previously certified devices include TET-X200, TET-X200T, TET-X200S, TET-T400, TET-T400S, and TET-T500 (restored Lenovo ThinkPad X200, T400, and T500), Vikings X200, Gluglug X60 (Lenovo Thinkpad X60), Tet-X200, Libreboot X200 (Lenovo ThinkPad X200), Taurinus X200 (Lenovo ThinkPad X200), and Libreboot T400 (Lenovo ThinkPad T400).
The certification provided by Free Foundation for Respect Your Freedom guarantees that the device satisfies all the requirements upheld by the foundation. The certificate confirms the conformity of the device requirements while emphasizing the provision of complete control over the user. The certificate was issued by the Gigabit Mini VPN Router tpe-r1400.
