The European Union (EU) is taking significant measures to protect against cyber attacks with the deployment of a specially designed “Cybercopol.” According to reports by “TASS,” the EU’s Commissioner for the domestic market, Thierry Breton, made this announcement on the LCI television channel.
Breton stated that this is the first deployment of such a system at the continental level in the world. He also pointed out its vital importance, saying the system’s architecture is based on cybersecurity operating centers, where supercomputers equipped with special algorithms and artificial intelligence are set up to safeguard against cyber attacks.
The Cybercopol will be connected to networks in different countries to increase the system’s discoverability in any sector at its initial stage. According to Breton, this system will cost a total of €1 billion.
The “Act on cybersecurity,” under which the Cybercopol will be deployed, is expected to be presented by the European Commission on April 18. This move towards implementing a state-of-the-art digital defense system will likely boost the confidence of EU residents and businesses in the security of online platforms.
