Capita, the outsourcing company, has restored its systems after suffering from cyber attacks that led to the blockage of some services for customers. Initially, the company had stated that employees were unable to access the working IT systems, which included Azure Active Directory, VPN, and Microsoft 365. Furthermore, customers had reported problems with access to Microsoft 365, Office, and Teams.
The company confirmed on April 3 that a cyberattack had taken place on March 31, affecting Microsoft 365’s access to internal applications. The hacking caused disruptions in the operation of some services provided to individual customers, but most client services continued to function. Capita has applied measures to isolate and contain the threat, limiting the problem to parts of its network. The company and its technical partners are now restoring employees’ access to Microsoft Office 365 and customer services.
There is currently no evidence that customer, supplier, or employee data has been compromised. Capita did not provide details on how the hackers breached the company’s network or which parts of the business were affected. The company also did not indicate which customers had their services disabled.
This is not the first time Capita has experienced a cyberattack. Last April, data belonging to 100 British Army recruits who worked abroad as spies was stolen.
