Ubuntu Cinnamon to Become Official Ubuntu Flavor
After being approved by the Technical Committee, the Ubuntu Cinnamon distribution will be joining the official editions of Ubuntu. Ubuntu Cinnamon offers the Cinnamon user environment and will be integrated with the Ubuntu infrastructure. Currently, tests are being conducted to ensure quality control and if no significant issues arise, Ubuntu Cinnamon will be available as an official Ubuntu assembly starting with the release of Ubuntu 23.04.
The Cinnamon user environment is developed by the Linux Mint distribution development community and includes a GNOME Shell fog, Nautilus file manager, and Mutter window manager. It is aimed at providing GNOME 2 Classical Support Elements from GNOME SHELL. While based on GNOME components, Cinnamon components are supplied as a periodically synchronized force and are not dependent on external dependencies with GNOME. Third-party applications included in Ubuntu Cinnamon are Libreoffice, Thunderbird, Rhythmbox, Gimp, Celluloid, Gnome Software, and Timeshift.
