VK has announced the launch of NAU Engine, a Russian open game engine project. The engine site is now operational and accepting applications for participation in testing, with the first beta version of the engine expected to arrive in 2024. The process of refinement and adaptation of the platform will then begin, alongside the creation of server solutions, with a full release scheduled for 2025.
NAU Engine is expected to provide a powerful core with a convenient editor and will allow users to create typical projects and finished game systems. Its simplified interfaces will enable simple connections to popular services, helping developers not only in the development process but also in providing access to integration tools like content updates, seasons, communities, leaderboards, and many others.
The project plans to invest up to 1 billion rubles in development, and at least 100 employees including programmers and artists will be recruited to work on the basic version. The engine is said to support different operating systems and platforms, including PCs, mobile devices, gaming consoles, and the web. The engine will be created based on an open code and will be free for developers.
