Nitrux Unveils Latest Release, Version 2.8.1
Nitrux, a Debian-based Linux distribution utilizing KDE technologies and the openrc initialization system, has released its latest version, Nitrux 2.8.1. The release features the project’s custom desktop environment, nx desktop, built on top of KDE Plasma and maui library. User applications have also been developed using the mauikit framework library, settypical for both desktop and mobile devices. Additional applications can be installed using a self-sufficient system of Appimages packages.
The full loading image size is 3.4GB, and the project is distributed under free licenses via GitHub.
The NX Desktop desktop offers its own implementation of the system tray, notification output center, and various plasmoids, such as network connection configurator and multimedia applet regulating volume and multimedia content playback. Applications integrated into the project include Note text editor, Index file manager, Station terminal emulator, VVAVE Musical player, CLIP video player, NX Software Center application control center and PIX Viewer.
Version 2.8.1 also includes several significant updates:
– Default KDE Plasma session now based on Wayland protocol
– Updated kernel to Linux 6.3.4 with patch implemented from liquorix
– Updated versions of software including Mesa 23.2-Git and Firefox 113.0.2
– Components updated to KDE Plasma 5.27.5, KDE Frameworks 5.106.0, and KDE Gear (KDE Applications) 23.04.1
– Proxy added to allow access via D-Bus interface to IIO devices
– DNSCRYPT-PROXY service now included in DNSCRYPT V2, DNS-OVER-HTTPS, Anonymized DNSCRYPT and ODOH
– Packages with Tor and Torsocks included in the composition
– SysCTL settings disable Core Damps formation
– Algorithm for password hashing changed from Yescrypt to SHA-2 512 with 60,000 hashes instead of 5,000 iterations.
