Oracle Releases Linux 8.8 and 9.2 Distribution

Oracle has unveiled its own core Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel 7 Update 1 (UEKR7U1) which is optimized for working with industrial software and equipment. This is in addition to the packets with the nucleus from the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) which is based on the nucleus 4.18 and 5.14. The core Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel 7 Update 1 is based on the Linux 5.15 nucleus. The initial texts of the nucleus, including breakdown into separate patches, are available in the public Git-reacle.

The UNBREAKABLE ENTERPRISE KERNEL is installed by default, as an alternative to the RHEL core and provides a number of advanced capabilities such as DTRACE integration and improved BTRFS support. Moreover, OracleLinux 9.2/8.8 and RHEL 9.2/8.8 are completely identical and the list of changes can be viewed in the announcement of RHEL 9.2 and 8.8.

It is noteworthy that Oracle was also prepared for loading. Hence the addition of the core Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel 7 Update 1 from Oracle provides the users with an alternative to working with industrial software and equipment. With its advanced capabilities, it is set to give RHEL a run for its money.
