Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Mao Nin, has accused the USA and their allies in the Five Eye Alliance of joint operations to spread misinformation. Her statements came in response to a report that was published by Microsoft on Wednesday, which implicated Chinese hackers in attacks on US infrastructure facilities.
Mao Nin pointed out that the United States is a real “hacker empire” and that the report is not based on trustworthy evidence. She also emphasized that the Five Eye Alliance, comprising the Cybersecurity Agencies of the USA, Great Britain, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, made similar statements almost simultaneously with Microsoft.
According to Mao Nin, it was a collective disinformation campaign “initiated by the United States as part of the Five Eye Alliance for its geopolitical goals.” She also stated that the United States had not only used government structures but also private companies in this campaign. This, she added, is not the first or last instance of such behavior from the US.
As tensions between China and the USA continue to escalate, Mao Nin’s comments are sure to spark further debate and discussion. Whether or not the allegations of misinformation campaigns and cyberattacks are true remains to be seen, but the issue is likely to remain in the news for the foreseeable future.
