Red Hat has released an update for its Enterprise Linux 8.8 branch following the release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.2. The update will be supported until at least 2029 and installation assemblies are available for architectures X86_64, S390X, PPC64le, and AARCH64. However, these assemblies are only available for download to registered users of Red Hat Customer Portal. ISO-images of Centos Stream 9 and free assemblies of Rhel for developers are also available for download. The initial texts of the RPM packages Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 are distributed through the git-repository centos.
The preparation of new issues follows a development cycle that releases every six months at a predetermined time. Until 2024, the 8.x branch will have full support which includes functional improvements. After this, it will move to the stage of escort prioritizing error and safety correction, with the introduction of minor improvements associated with the support of important hardware systems.
The update includes new versions of server and system packages such as Nginx 1.22, Libreswan 4.9, and OpenScap 1.3.7. It also includes new versions of compilers and tools for developers such as GCC Toolset 12, LLVM Toolset 15.0.7, Rust Toolset 1.66, and Go Toolset 1.19.4. Additionally, new FIPS mode settings are available to meet the requirements of the FIPS 140-3 standard. Selinux policies are also updated to ensure the proper operation of Systemd-Socket-Proxyd.
