Arch Linux Migrates to Git, Restructures Repos

Distributors of Arch Linux have warned users about the upcoming implementation of new infrastructure for package development. Starting from May 19th to the 21st, the Subversion will switch to Git and Gitlab. During the migration, updating of packet repositories will be temporarily suspended, and access to primary mirrors will be limited. Once the migration is completed, access to svn-repositories will be closed and SVN2GIT will stop updating.

Furthermore, during the migration period, restructuring of repositories will be carried out. The “Testing” repository will be divided into “Core-Testing” and “Extra-Testing”, and the “Staging” repository into “Core-Staging” and “Extra-Staging”. The contents of the Community repository will be transferred to the Extra repository. After the restructuring is completed, “Testing”, “Staging”, and “Community” will be empty. To continue normal package updates, users of converted repositories will need to change their settings in Pacman.conf, such as replacing the mention of “test-testing” and “Extra-Testing”.

It is crucial for Arch Linux users to be aware of these changes. The restructuring of repositories may cause disruptions to regular package updates. Nonetheless, once the migration and restructuring are completed, the new infrastructure should provide better support and stability for package development. Users can refer to the official announcement for more information and instructions on how to update their Pacman.conf settings.
